Mark Callaway - Psychotherapist, Councellor, CBT Hypnotherapist, EMDR Practitioner, Coach, Supervisor, Social Worker, Approved Mental Health Professional

After spending many years working within financial services until 2007, I embarked on a career working with children and families experiencing trauma and abuse. I qualified as as psychotherapist in 2012, I am a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), the largest counselling body in the UK. In 2022 I qualified as Social Worker (registered with Social Work England) working within adult mental health and have recently qualified as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP). I am experienced working with individuals, couples and groups - adults, young people, and children as young as aged 7.

I have experience within financial services, residential child care, family outreach, children and families support and safeguarding, domestic violence, substance misuses, and complex mental health. I regularly work alongside general practitioners, psychiatric and general hospitals, adult community mental health teams, child and adolescent mental health teams, educational settings and care providers.

My counselling experience includes helping people explore issues of:

  • alcohol dependency, substance misuse and other addictions

  • relationship problems, family conflict, extra-familial harm and domestic violence

  • anxiety, grief, loss and change

  • depression, hopelessness and suicidal ideation

  • neurodivergence, ADHD, sexuality and identity issues

  • complex trauma, abuse and complex mental health

  • difficult choices, paranoid beliefs and other presenting problems

Some areas that have stood out for me in my career so far are helping a young lady trust me as a male counsellor by exploring the impact of domestic violence, supporting a father to connect with his adopted son and to therapeutically support a lady whose life was falling apart.

My main availability is during the evening and weekends, but I can be flexible to meet your needs if you reach out with your preferences. I am happy to provide short or long-term counselling and will review progress with you on a regular basis. I have experience using classic face to face, walking therapy, video, telephone and instant messaging models of counselling.

I use a blend of psychoeducation, creativity, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Hypnosis and EMDR in my counselling approach.
